valentines

Next week I will be adding a new set of Valentines Day cards to my shop!
They are flat with an envelope, just like the single cards I gave to classmates way back when.
They are printed archivally on the same beautiful textured paper as my fine art prints, so you can even gift them as frameable "mini-prints". Check back in next week!

Botanical Tea Towel

Hooray! My first ever, limited edition tea towels have arrived.  I am so excited for this next step and couldn't be happier with how they turned out.

The lovely folks at Orchard Street Press did an excellent job getting the soft color I was going for, using water-based inks and a beautiful, nubby natural towel.

Those of you who are fans of my botanical Gocco prints will love this new application. They are big, absorbant, and will feel softer with each use.

Head on over to the shop to pick one up - makes a great housewarming gift!

all good things

2012 Calendar

I have been putting a calendar out since 2009, and I really like every year more than the year before. This year is my favorite so far! It's a little bit bigger than previous years, it's printed on 100% recycled paper, and I have positioned each of the illustrations in a way that will allow you to cut them off for framing. All of these improvements are the result of you guys telling me what you would like to see. I love hearing what you think, so please feel free to send me a note or leave a comment!

I shipped out the pre-orders yesterday, and each package went out with an extra special edition print - my way of thanking you for supporting my shop and making it possible for me to put this out year after year. I love what I do, and I am so thankful to be able to keep doing it!

Some new things are on the horizon as well - my first tea towel will be available next week!

That's way too many exclamation points! Coffee!

My new card set is now available in my shop! The You Look Pretty cards went over so well that I thought I would put out a set that has something for everyone.

I am in my studio today, working away on the 2012 Calendar...

guest posting...

Well, let's set aside the fact that I can't seem to keep up with my own blog and head over to Little Lottie Loves to read about my thoughts on collecting art for kids! Charlotte asked me to cover for a day while she's out of town, and I couldn't be happier to oblige.
Thanks Charlotte!

year end

A little peek at the baby's room. The walls were already this color and I feel like it makes the room really calm. It's a good sleeping room.

My 2011 Wall Calendar is shipping for FREE to the U.S. this week, through December 17. I'm down to the end of the box! Thank you to everyone who has already placed their orders and left such sweet comments about it. It's my favorite one so far, and I already have plans for next year...

Art vs Craft 2010

Art vs. Craft 2010
Every year, I am in love with the promotional card and poster designs by the ever-talented duo The LIttle Friends of Printmaking. We have a few of their silkscreen posters, and I keep wanting more, but it seems a little nuts to have 10 art posters from the same artists. Maybe not. I will probably get another one this year at Art v Craft.

Speaking of Art vs Craft, I will be there again this year and I hope you will stop by and say hi. I will be the large pregnant lady with a table full of stuff, including the 2011 Wall Calendar.

Speaking of the calendar, it was featured this morning on Decor8! Holly put together a great selection this year, and I have to say, it looks like mine is the only one that has room to write events and birthdays on it. Hooray for my list-making obsession!

More to come int he next few days as I tackle wholesale orders and press checks....

2011 Calendar - Ready for Pre-Sale

HOORAY!
My 2011 Wall Calendar is off to the printer, and is now available for pre-order at my etsy shop.

I will be shipping them out as soon as I get them - likely within the first week or so of November.

I am also excited to announce (again) that for the first year ever, the wall calendar is available for wholesale orders. Please contact me if you are interested in the details.

I will also have plenty on hand at this year's Art vs Craft. I am so happy with the calendar this year!

I am also hoping (hoping) to offer a new format this year. Many of you have requested a wider format, more suitable for families and event planning. I'm getting to work on that next week and will let you know how it turns out.

the nursery

clockwise from top left: "Much Love" print by ashleyg, "Flock of Swallows" mobile from Anthropologie (purchased!),  Elephant clock from Rare Device, "Ampersand" letterpress print by gemmabear, "Punch Drunk" pom mobile by PomLove, "Rainbow bobbles" knitted baby blanket by rocketandbear, "DwellStudio Silver Lake Crib" from Target (thanks Dad and Carla!), "DwellStudio Silver Lake Changing Table" from Target (thanks Cheri and Tom!),  Saarinen womb chair (already own and love), "Fauna Pico Pillow" from Design Public, "Diamond Jungle Dhurrie" rug from Anthropologie.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A few people have asked what my plans for the nursery are. I'm not into the fantasy baby room idea for two reasons: 1. Tom and I have to spend time in that room so we should like the look of it, and 2. Babies don't know the difference. Do you remember anything from when you were in a crib? Me, either. So the room will have baby things but really it's just another room in a house inhabited by adults.

The walls are already a nice warm dark grey that we both love, so that will remain as is (I'll locate the color name - it's by Benjamin Moore). I was at first trying to shun the pink theme, mostly because I don't know about the whole girl=pink boy=blue idea, but it turns out that I like hot pinks and peachy pinks a lot, especially with grey. I'm choosing things for the room that are not so much "baby" as "kid", meaning that these are things that will grow with her. I'm sure there will be plenty of baby things mixed in here, but I can see all this stuff in a little girl's and even an older girl's room too.

The funny thing is that we plan to have her in our room for the first few months at least anyway, but designing this room is just plain fun. In another week I will be able to start pulling it together - can't wait!

working

My studio is a hot mess. I have hoisted my desk/table up on some old paint cans and I think the height makes things seem okay even though the entire room is just a disaster now. I am very sick of the sky blue walls in here too - any color suggestions?

I have an awesome hook-up for leather samples, so I have been trying to get as much out of them as I can. One idea is this wrist pin cushion. The cushions are filled with emery sand to keep your needles sharp, and the leather cuff prevents the needles from poking your delicate skin. They close with velcro and are really comfy to work with. I know when I am sewing, I move from cutting table to sewing machine station and it's a hassle to keep track of the pin cushions. Now I can be stylish and productive all day :) I will be adding them to etsy soon...

2010 CALENDAR ALERT
I am so excited about this year's calendar. I have made the writing area larger, signified the weekends to break the month up visually, and am adding more color to each month. I am also working on a day planner that is pretty sweet, but the logistics are something I still have to figure out.

BON IVER
If you don't know who Bon Iver/Justin Vernon are, please google or itunes search for him/them because it is just the perfect autumn album. I have been a little obsessed with him for some time now, and on Sunday we got to see the final show of his tour! It was a beautiful show, as expected. Sadly, I waited too long to get tickets and we were so far away that Justin was about 2 inches tall. that all turned out okay though because...
wait for it....
I totally got to hang in the green room after the show!!!!! I would love to say that I hung out with Justin and we had a meaningful conversation and now we totally chat online all the time, but no. Instead I was too shy to say anything to him, drank two beers whilst visually stalking him, and then I got sleepy and went home. I know - I am so cool. I did talk to his band guys, who were super nice and very talented. I also touched Justin's shirt with my elbow when he walked past. Many times.

Go HERE to download the podcast of the show I was at! DO IT.

tote bag

Farmer's Market season is upon us, so I have been experimenting with tote bags. I made one above per my procrastination-free promise of yesterday, but there are some unfortunate mistakes so I will not be giving it away as intended. It's good to experiment like this - I am learning something new with each oops moment, and this one is good enough for me to use. I started a new one this morning that I think will be better. I made the pattern up as I went along, but it's pretty darn simple. I am not lining these at all - maybe some of you have thoughts on this - if I were to start selling them (once I master the pattern) is it necessary to line them? It would look nicer, but then the price would have to go up and I don't know if they would move at the price reflective of the time spent making each one. I'm sure after I make a few the time spent will be reduced though...
