spring collection, birth of summer

Yay summer! For you non-Wisconsinites, we have been experiencing a string of hot, sunny days like we have not experienced in years. Record-breaking, even. We live for about 8 - 9 months of the year in cold and greyness – not that I don't appreciate the seasons for what they are too – but summer? Summer is a treat. I think last year we had maybe a handful of days like this, but this year - dare I say it - we are having week after week of awesome.

NEW
Today I have posted the fifth print in my botanical series. This one is "Spring Collection", and it is a very limited edition of 10. It may be my favorite so far. How do you feel about this on a tea towel?

back to work

Back to work this week, after a nice break. It's kind of challenging to sit at a desk for set hours each day after knowing the glory that is doing whatever I want all day. It's also a nice change of pace to know exactly what must be done rather than move from thing to thing each hour. My studio is like a playground in that sense - I want to play with everything and sometimes that means not getting very far on one thing. BUT, this new gig means working about 3 days, and having the rest of the time to do my own work, and that is just perfect for me.

YARD
Man, our yard needs a TON of work. Do you want to come over and tear out the whole front yard for me and make it pretty? Me, either. This weekend looks like it will be nice though, so no excuse to not get some serious weeding done. Luckily, in between the weeds, beautiful things like alium pop up and remind me why we even have a yard. Inspiration.

SOLD OUT
My Fall Bouquet print has now completely sold through! I love when this happens.

I have at least two new prints coming in the next couple of weeks - I can't wait to post them!

Time to let the dog take me for a walk. Have a great weekend!

hot

hooray for sunshine and warm breezes.
hooray for sprouting greens and flower buds bursting.
hooray for walks and birds chirping and herbs cut from the garden.

I have been a busy bee getting my etsy shop update in order, sending out resumés, finishing projects, and making new drawings.
This weekend will be our inaugural camping trip on the Mississippi River - I hope this weather holds out...

the remote stylist

Here is a nice little article on my etsy shop that actually appeared last month on The Remote Stylist.

Thanks for the write-up! When I read things like this about myself, I always seem to read it as though it's about someone else. Strange?

new print

I made a new print for fall - it is a very dark plum with golden orange swirled through.

this one is a little crazy. I'm not sure what is going on here yet, but I'll let you know if I figure it out...

I am working on a lot of different things that will happen in November:

art vs. craft on Saturday, November 29.

Design Within Reach in Milwaukee will be hosting an Art and Design Book Sale on November 8. Several local bookstores will be featured, as well as myself! I will be showing some large scale drawings and prints and whatever else I come up with by then.

more things

New items will be live in my etsy shop later this evening! This is Gold Series #3, in a small edition of 17. I also have 3 Moleskin Journals in this design.

experimenting:

I am working on some textile designs, and playing with color and pattern. These prints are my first attempt, and soon I will make something out of this canvas. My main goal with this test is to see if / how my designs translate to fabric, so for now I am keeping it very simple with freezer paper stencils and good old fabric paint. I hope to get some yardage screen printed in the future, but not necessarily with this pattern... I am loving the possibilities!

Gold Series 3

To be added to my etsy shop in the coming week, also at Blush (corner of Water and Buffalo in Milwaukee's Third Ward). It was pretty cloudy when I snapped the pics, so I am waiting for good sunshine before I can add it to etsy. I am kind of a stickler about these things! If you would like an advance order, just email me or leave a comment below....

sold out!!

Gold Series #1 has officially sold out! I am very pleased with this, although I did give up my artist copy and thus have none left at all. There is still one Moleskin journal left with this image on it though, but it's downtown at Blush.

I am also happy to announce that I successfully printed the 3rd installment to the Gold Series, and if the sun ever comes out today, I will get it ready to show you. It's a very rainy day today, just they way I like it (except when I have things I want to photograph).

More to come, hopefully today....

wednesday

a pair of images from my weekend at the Dells. Wisconsin Dells is a very funny little town that is really geared for children. Waterparks, trinkets to beg your parents for, haunted houses, fudge. Fortunately for my father, I am well past begging for things like small fuzzy bunnies (however tempting it was), and we actually stood in line for fudge before deciding we should have a blended tropical drink instead. If you ever go to the Dells, here is a tip - a bar called "the Sand Bar" with a slogan that reads "Get Marooned Here!" does not have blended tropical drinks at all, no matter what you might assume from the clever naming of said bar.

Also, here is a peek at my latest print:

I also printed it on a few Moleskin notebooks to test it out as a new product option. I would love to get some feedback from you guys! i will be adding them to my etsy shop this week.

Plum preview

this is something I have been working on. I made a gocco print this weekend, but for some reason there were bare spots in the prints. In a way, I like the effect because it gives the image sort of a roughed up contrast to the line work. I am going to experiment with adding more color and using the print as a base for more. What do you think?
