art vs craft!

please click on this image for a full view.

Don't forget to visit me THIS SATURDAY at art vs craft!!!

I am so excited to be a part of this event, and still have quite a bit to do to get ready. That said, I have to get going! I am off to the post office to ship a calendar all the way to Norway. Norway!

Event details:
Event address: Scottish Rite Masonic Center, 790 N Van Buren St.
Between Wells & Mason in downtown Milwaukee
(The street is a one way heading North)

10am - 7pm. Bring me snacks.

There are 69 vendors, and I will be on the lower level. I will be the one smiling so hard my face may crack in half.

Have a great Turkey Day - I will be enjoying the company of my family and trying to not mentally obsess over my to-do list. Or I will torture them by verbally checking things off my to-do list for the first part of the day until I am satisfied I have it all covered. That's what sisters are for. and moms. and nieces and nephews. and brothers in law and stepdads. get ready, suckers.

the remote stylist

Here is a nice little article on my etsy shop that actually appeared last month on The Remote Stylist.

Thanks for the write-up! When I read things like this about myself, I always seem to read it as though it's about someone else. Strange?

it's ok

It has been awhile since I last posted someone else's work on this site, and the reason for that is pure distracted laziness. I have been in my cocoon of art for a few months now, and have really been neglecting my usual perusal of other artists and designers.
That is why I was so happy to receive a nice email from Sighn, telling me about his latest challenge - a limited edition of ONE MILLION handcut reassurances : "it's ok".
I came across this work last year and have been coveting the pieces ever since, and I think I will snatch a couple up for Christmas presents.

In his own words:
ITS OK
Edition of 1 Million
Released by Multi Polar Projects
Varying thickness & type of Wood (Image attached is bamboo)
Every piece is hand cut & numbered by the artist

Yes, it's a hand cut 'limited' edition of 1 million. This will probably
take the next 30-60 years to finish. It is definitely a poignant message,
in the times we are currently facing.

Also, a tree is planted through the Arbor Day Foundation for everyone sold.

Isn't that awesome? I think so.

Symphony Style

I made this mask for the Symphony Style Show, which took place at the Milwaukee Art Museum last Friday. The mask was not used in the show, but guests are given a "Style Book" which represents several designers, photographers, models, advertisers, etc.
This image was for M Magazine and was shot byJessica Kaminski, who is really a fantastic photographer and you should check out her site. Finally, the makeup and hair is by Laurel Carraway and if you would like more info on her, just get in touch! I am her agent. Just kidding, she doesn't have a website up yet.

phew! credit where credit is due! The mask is something I have never done before, so it was a fun challenge and I am pretty happy with the result.

In other news, I am still working like crazy! Make sure you come out to Art vs Craft on November 29!! It is going to be off the hook. I just have about a million things to do to get ready for it, and then my life will calm back down to a steady pillow-making crawl again and maybe I will even spend leisurely time with my friends at a bar drinking tropical drinks and pretending that it doesn't become pitch black at 4pm every day now. The change of the seasons always throws me off, even after almost 30 years in this state.

Speaking of almost 30, I have 2 days left of my 20's. Any suggestions? so far, here is what I have decided I must do before Friday:

1.) Re-join the gym.
2.) ....

oh, that's it. I only have 2 days and I do have to work, so....

Thank you to Sarah Fox of Cursive Design for the nice mention on DesignSponge today! Check out the article on Midwest Design Fairs here.

The event this weekend went really well! I sold out of the calendars, although I printed a test run of only 7. I will have photos up on Tuesday morning and make it available on etsy this week.

a day for the history books

Don't forget to vote today! I just got back from voting and it's a beautiful morning. There was no line at all, which was nice but also a bit unsettling - you are voting, right?

edited to add: YAAAAY!!! Cheers to new beginnings. I'm so proud of you, America!
